Organization

The Norwegian Association for Arts and Crafts  (NK) is a national organisation for professional practising artists. The organisation was established in 1975 and now comprises approximately 850 members who work within the areas of ceramic, textile, metal, tree, glass, leather crafting and crossover areas. NK is artist led, and is funded through support from Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs and membership dues.NKs members are often commissioned to produce art in public spaces, and an increasing number of Norwegian artist have gained international renown through individual and group exhibitions, won prestigious awards or work as lecturers or jurors abroad.

Objectives

NK main objective is to improve the professional artists entrepreneurialconditions, to increase governments scholarships and grants, as well as to increase the use of arts and crafts in public spaces.NK is also an events management organization, which arranges large exhibitions in Norway and abroad, as well as seminars and meetings. NK produce the juried   Annual Exhibition of Norwegian arts and crafts.Organizing Norwegian arts and crafts abroad is a priority area for NK and work to promoting and exhibiting crafts from abroad to Norway.  NK is establishing a broad network with highly regarded galleries and museums around the world.

Galleri FORMAT

The Galleri FORMAT is owned by NK with spaces in both Oslo and Bergen. The galleries are exhibition and sales venues of the finest professional and artistic quality within ceramic, textile, metal, tree, glass and leather.
